How the SFCEE Marriage Preparation Retreat Works

San Francisco Catholic Engaged Encounter (SFCEE) is a marriage preparation retreat in the San Francisco Bay Area. The weekend retreat is open to engaged couples of any religious background and focuses on building communication and a strong foundation for lifelong marriage. Here’s what to expect:

1. Reflect as a Couple

Over a day and a half, you’ll engage in guided reflection, writing, and private dialogue. Most of the retreat is spent in one-on-one conversation with your fiancé(e).

2. Explore Essential Topics

You’ll reflect on and discuss communication, finances, intimacy, family life, faith, personal values, and long-term goals — focusing on marriage, not just the wedding day.

3. Learn from Married Couples

Experienced married couples share real-life challenges and practical tools that strengthened their relationships.

4. Leave with a Stronger Relationship

By the end of the retreat, you’ll have clearer communication tools and a deeper understanding of each other — helping you prepare for a lifelong commitment.

Our retreat weekends are open to couples of any religious background or affiliation. Attending a SFCEE marriage prep weekend is recommended by the Diocese of San Francisco and satisfies the marriage preparation requirement for most dioceses.
